  STEP-BY-STEP APPLICATION GUIDE

There are five steps to complete in order to apply for the eDegree program at GTCC.

1. Submit your online application through the College Foundation of North Carolina:

http://www.cfnc.org/onlineapps/info_onlineapps.jsp

This website allows you to complete your GTCC application for admission and your FAFSA application for financial aid. Note the FAFSA Priority Deadline is March 15, 2011.

NOTE: Current GTCC students and those who have attended GTCC within the last 3 years do not need to reapply to the college.

2. Complete our online questionnaire.

This questionnaire gives you a chance to explore the requirements of the eDegree program while testing your computer skills.

Online students need to feel comfortable on the computer. You need the ability to download software, attach documents to emails and post messages on discussion boards.

3. Complete appropriate Placement Testing OR submit your SAT/ACT scores.

Students in these programs complete a set curriculum to receive a guaranteed spot in these courses.

Because the courses in the eDegree program are reading and writing intensive, and because GTCC does not currently offer developmental courses online, students in the online degree programs must not require any developmental courses in reading or writing, and students who place into developmental math will have to take these classes on campus.

This means that to be in the associate degree programs, students must achieve minimum scores on the Placement Test or the SAT/ACT. The scores needed are shown at right.

In addition, students applying to the Medical Transcription program must take a keyboarding test and should be able to type at least 45 words or more per minute with a maximum of 3 errors on a 3-minute timing with keys covered.

4. Submit an official copy of your high school transcripts or GED scores to the GTCC Admissions office at PO Box 309, Jamestown, NC 27282.

If you attended other colleges before applying to GTCC, you must request an official copy of these transcripts be sent to our Admissions office.

5. Complete eLearning Orientation and email the eDegree Coordinator a copy of your certificate.

To get started in eLearning Orientation, go to http://online.gtcc.edu and log in using your Titan Cruiser ID and your date of birth in MMDDYY format as password.  Visit this site if you need help:  http://www.gtcc.edu/distance/howtobegin.aspx

All students have access to this course, which contains a series of graded lessons and quizzes that you need to complete with an 80 or better to be issued the certificate at the end.  Once you are issued the certificate, save a copy to your computer, and email this as an attachment to djstpeter@gtcc.edu.  We will then contact you regarding your admission status and next steps.
